Tunga Guesthouse

Mongolia

Backpacker central in Tariat, this family guesthouse is pretty basic, but is run by the welcoming Tunga, who speaks perfect English and has great knowledge on the area. Rooms are clean and comfortable and she'll let you camp in the yard if the guesthouse is full. There's an outdoor long-drop toilet, makeshift hot shower and free laundry. Enter from the side gate.

The guesthouse is at the far eastern end of the main strip in Tariat, just a short walk from the bridge into the park.

Tunga and her husband Amaraa can organise horse riding (US$10 per day per horse, plus US$20 per guide), help with onward transport, car and motorcycle repairs, and fishing gear (US$5 per day). Local traditional meals can also be ordered for T6000. They can also arrange free tent hire, and have a summer-only family ger on the quiet south side of the lake, where travellers can stay.
