AMC Highland Center Lodge

Top choice in White Mountains

This cozy Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) lodge is set amid the splendor of Crawford Notch, an ideal base for hiking the trails crisscrossing the Presidential Range. The grounds are beautiful, rooms are basic but comfortable, meals are hearty and guests are outdoor enthusiasts. Discounts for AMC members. The information center, open to the public, has loads of information about regional hiking.

Other perks include a hiker shuttle to nearby trailheads from June to mid-October, and a full range of LL Bean gear (hiking boots, fleece jackets etc) available to guests free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the year.

Co-ed hostel-style bunks are available in the renovated Shapleigh Bunkhouse (adult/child/teen from $63/33/53). Breakfast is included in rates.

Even if you're not staying at the Highland Center, stop by for the energizing vibe inspired by a communal love for adventuring, and the gorgeous views from the Adirondack chairs out front.
