Philippine Airlines ( and Cebu Pacific ( fly between Manila and Zamboanga City (1½ hours) several times daily; the latter also flies to Cebu (one hour) and Davao several times a week (one hour), and to Jolo and Tawi-Tawi in the Sulu Archipelago. Plans for a new international airport have been in the works for many years; it finally appears to be moving forward. International links might include Kota Kinabalu or Sandakan, both in Malaysia.

The airport is 2km from the centre of Zamboanga City. Catch a public tricycle (P10), jeepney (P8) or taxi (P150).


George & Peter has a weekly trip to Cebu (P1000, 29 hours); and 2GO goes once weekly to Dumaguete (P550, 12 hours) and Manila (P1800, 48 hours)

Weesam Express goes to Isabela (P190, 45 minutes, four daily) on nearby Basilan Island and Jolo (P800, 3½ hours, 8.30am); the ticketing office is at the ferry terminal. Aleson Shipping Lines and Ever Lines Shipping Inc have trips to Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

Getting to Malaysia

Aleson Shipping Lines has a boat to Sandakan in Malaysia (economy/air-con/cabin P7620/8020/8240, 20 hours) every Monday and Thursday at 2pm. It departs Sandakan on Tuesday and Friday at 5pm.

Santa Cruz Island

Boats to Santa Cruz (round-trip P2500 for up to six people) leave from in front of Paseo del Mar.
