Welcome to Masbate
Masbate Island is the largest and most developed of the three main islands comprising Masbate Province. It's mostly devoted to ranching, which, together with a certain reputation for lawlessness, has earned the island the moniker 'the Wild East'. The main visitor draw is the raucous annual rodeo in April in Masbate Town; some travellers are also drawn by the relative lack of infrastructure, an absence of tourist hordes, inland scenery that alternates between pastureland and jungle-shrouded mountains and a smattering of offbeat attractions.
Masbate Province incorporates the satellite islands of Ticao, with its renowned diving destination of Manta Bowl, and wilder, remoter Burias.
