Tucked away in the foothills of Mt Banahaw, the pleasant mountain town of Lucban boasts an impressive stone church surrounded by usually quiet cobbled streets. It comes alive for Pahiyas, the annual harvest festival and feast of San Isidro Labrador. Locals compete for a prize by covering their houses in fruit, vegetables and wildly elaborate multicoloured rice-starch decorations called kiping. Giant papier-mâché effigies are marched through the streets to the town church.
