Checking flights...

Air

The airport is 10km northwest of town. LATAM has three daily flights between Lima and Trujillo. Avianca flies the same route twice a day, while LC Perú has one evening flight.

Bus

Buses often leave Trujillo full, so booking a little earlier is advised. Several companies that go to southern destinations have terminals on the Panamericana Sur, the southern extension of Moche, and Ejército; check where your bus actually leaves from when buying a ticket.

Línea has services to most destinations of interest to travelers and is one of the more comfortable bus lines.

There’s an enclave of bus companies around España and Amazonas offering Lima-bound night buses (eight hours).

If you want to travel to Huaraz by day, you’ll need to go to Chimbote and catch a bus from there. For more frequent buses to Cajamarca and the Northern Highlands, head to Chiclayo.

For Otuzco combis (minibuses) depart between the 17th and 18th cuadras of Prolongacíon Unión, northeast of town. Tours Pacifico buses head up the mountain six times a day.

America Express A S5 taxi ride south of town, with buses to Chimbote every 20 minutes between 4am and 10:30pm.

Civa Offers 8:30pm and 9:30pm buses to Lima.

Around Trujillo

Microbuses marked 'H' and combis 'A' and 'B' for Huaca Esmeralda (S1.50), Chan Chan (S1.50) and Huanchaco (S2) pass the corners of España and Ejército, and España and Independencia, every few minutes. Buses for La Huaca Arco Iris, marked 'Parque Arco Iris,' run from the same corners.

For Huacas del Sol y de la Luna, head to the corner of Orbegoso and Avenida Los Incas southeast of the centre, where 'Campiña de Moche' combis (S1.50) pass every 15 minutes or so. Note that these buses are worked by professional thieves; keep valuables hidden and watch your bags carefully. A taxi to most of these sites will cost S15 to S20.

El Complejo Arqueológico la Huaca el Brujo, about 60km northwest of Trujillo, is harder to reach. The safest route is to catch a bus to Chocope (S4.50, 1½ hours) from Ovalo del Papa, southwest of Trujillo's center. Switch to a colectivo to Magdalena de Cao (S2.50, 20 minutes), where you’ll need to negotiate with a mototaxi to take you to and from the site with waiting time (S15 for the round trip is about the going rate, depending on how long you want at the site). There are also Chocope-bound buses from the Provincial Bus Terminal Interurbano, southeast of central Trujillo, but this neighborhood is best avoided by tourists.
