It must be hard to recreate a tranquil jungle resort in the middle of hot, honking Tarapoto, but La Patarashca pulls it off with aplomb. The key(s): sprawling grounds with jungle-like fauna, a curvaceous turquoise swimming pool, spacious common areas replete with books and art, and comfortable rooms adorned with florescent paintings and crafty lamps that feel homey and welcoming.
A few ornery macaws drive home a sense of place, as does the best regional restaurant in town, attached by a walkway.
Add S30 per night for rooms with air-conditioning.
Guests can enjoy free Wi-Fi and relax in hammocks in the lush garden at La Patarashca, in Tarapoto. The hotel is both 5 minutes by car from Cadete FAP Guillermo del Castillo Paredes Airport and Tarapoto bus terminal. The unpretentious rooms have wooden bedside tables and lamps. They also feature air conditioning and cable TV. La Patarashca’s onsite tour desk can help guests reserve tours. Bird watching is possible in the area too. The property has an onsite restaurant and café. Tarapoto’s Plaza de Armas square is 2 blocks away. La Patarashca offers free private parking on site and free airport shuttle.
