The long, curvy bay at Punta Sal, 25km north of Máncora, is prettier and far more chilled than its noisy neighbor. It's a quiet little town with sandy streets leading to a wide beach with fine sand that is home to great eateries, and there are no trucks powering through to shatter the peace.
The sea here is calm, and while there are some rocky bits it’s still great for a dip in the ocean. The lack of surfer types means that this tranquil oasis of resorts is particularly popular with families.
Note that there are two towns here: Punta Sal is located down a spur road off the Panamericana, while busier and less attractive Canoas de Punta Sal straddles the highway.
