If you’re looking for the perfect combination of land and river, this adventure is for you. Once you’re on board our comfortable Amazon riverboat, you’ll experience a unique cruising experience — including exotic wildlife, local culture and more! But it doesn’t stop there — after the jungle, Machu Picchu awaits. The lost city of the Incas will provide majestic ruins and striking views of the Peruvian mountain. Choose to take part in an optional 1-day hike up the Inca Trail, or if you prefer something a little more relaxing, there’s always the chance to enjoy the train.

Itinerary

Day 1 Lima Arrive at any time. Arrival transfer included. Additional Notes: Please note: if you booked the Lima Cooking Class it does not include extra time in Lima – booking pre-trip accommodation is highly recommended. You will be picked up from your hotel at approximately 10:00 (10:30 from Aug-Dec) and taken to a local market and restaurant to prepare and enjoy a traditional Peruvian meal. Return back to the hotel around 13:00. Hot water shortages and power outages can be fairly common in Peru (even in upgraded hotels and private homes). Day 2 Lima/Cusco (1B) Travel to the airport for the early morning flight to Cusco. Spend the day relaxing and exploring this fascinating city. Our best advice for exploring Cusco is to wear a comfortable pair of shoes. Arm yourself with a city map and set out to explore. Additional Notes: Please note: if you pre-book the Cusco Cooking Class you will be picked up from your hotel at approx 12:30 and taken to a local market and restaurant to prepare and enjoy a traditional Peruvian meal. Return back to your hotel around 16:00. Transport: Plane (1.00-1.50 hours)
Day 3 Cusco/Ollantaytambo (1B, 1L) Travel through the stunning Sacred Valley of the Incas, visiting a G Adventures-supported women's weaving co-op. Meet the women and learn about traditional weaving and dyeing. Opt to pick up some handmade souvenirs directly from the women who made them. Continue on to watch a pottery making demonstration in another small village. Have lunch at the G Adventures-supported Parwa community restaurant. Learn about the project and eat a delicious buffet-style lunch. Proceeds from the meal go directly back into the remote community. Day 4 Ollantaytambo/Aguas Calientes (1B) Board a morning train that winds through the spectacular Urubamba Valley to the end of the line: the village of Aguas Calientes, a frontier town nestled in the hills beneath Machu Picchu. Enjoy the rest of the day taking advantage of the hikes and hot springs in the area. Transport: Train (1.50 hour(s))
Day 5 Machu Picchu/Cusco (1B) Start early to catch the sunrise at the top. Take the bus up to the historic spiritual centre of the Incas, the 'Lost City' of Machu Picchu. Tour the ruins with an expert guide then explore on your own. Later, return by train to Ollantaytambo and meet a private vehicle to head back to Cusco. Day 6 Cusco (1B) Enjoy a free day in Cusco. Active options include whitewater rafting, horseback riding, and mountain biking.
Day 7 Cusco/Iquitos (1B) The day begins very early to catch our flight to Iquitos and transfer to the Amazon River boat. Once on board the ship, relax and soak in the natural beauty of the wild rainforest. Step out on deck to watch the riverbanks go by, and keep eyes peeled for wildlife such as grey and pink dolphins. Expert guides will lead jungle walks, give lectures, and point out unique species of bird and marine life as you explore the smaller tributaries of the river. Additional Notes: Please note that excursions and activities while on the riverboat are dependent on fluctuating water levels and are subject to change. Day 8 Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (1B, 1L, 1D) Head out into the Pacaya Samiria Reserve on a boat excursion and search for monkeys, sloths, and macaws. In the afternoon, take a walk through the jungle and visit a local community to learn about their traditions. After dinner, opt to go on a night excursion to Piranha Creek. Day 9 Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (1B, 1L, 1D) Explore the town of Nauta before continuing to cruise down the Amazon River. In the afternoon enjoy a jungle walk and learn about medicinal plants, search for monkeys and keep an eye out for reptiles. Day 10 Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (1B, 1L, 1D) Explore the Amazon River and some of its tributaries in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. In the constantly changing Amazon we offer flexible itineraries, the naturalists onboard tailor each departure to the surroundings and water levels to ensure you get the most out of your Amazon adventure. Over the next few days, enjoy shore excursions, night excursions, educational lectures, a visit to a local shaman, an indigenous village, and the incredible wildlife of this lush area. Day 13 Pacaya Samiria National Reserve/Lima (1B) In the morning explore the shoreline by motorized skiff keeping your eyes out for birds, monkeys and sloths. Leave the peacefulness of the river behind en route stop at the manatee rescue centre before catching a flight back to Lima. Enjoy the evening in the city. Additional Notes: Please note the order of the activities is sometimes changed due to logistical reasons and the Manatee Rescue Centre may be visited earlier in the trip to allow enough time to enjoy the centre.
