Hey! I'll be doing the lodge to lodge Ausangate trek in early June, arriving in Cusco 3 days ahead of time to acclimatize.
Can anyone suggest day trips/hikes that are less than 2 hours travel time from Cusco? We will be skipping MP and don't want to push too hard before Ausangate, but still want to get in a practice hike or excursion while not being stuck in a van all day.
I will traveling in Peru in the first 2-3 weeks of July and want to do these hikes. It seems to be cheaper to get a group rate so I'm looking for other interested people. About me: I'm a 31 year old teacher from the United States, have been living and teaching in Colombia for 2 years and speak intermediate Spanish.
I am trying to squeeze a 2 day tour of the colca canyon into the last two days of my trip. The only way I can do this is if I fly from Cusco to Arequipa after seeing Machu Pichu. The flight arrives in Arequipa at 7:40am which is also the time that most tours leave from Arequipa to Colca Canyon. I dont know how far the airport is from the city but I doubt I can get on any of these tours in time and I cant find any tours leaving in the afternoon. I was wondering what my options are of getting…
Hello. My wife, our two kids (15 and 17) and I will be traveling to Peru this summer and would like to do a 4 to 7-day trek somewhere in the Cusco area. We're looking at Ausangate or Choquequirao and wondering whether we can do this without a guide, perhaps just hiring mules or donkeys to carry our things. Any advice? If not, does anyone have experience with a company called Active Peru? Other trekking outfits they'd recommend? Thanks.
How much should travel insurance cost for 2 weeks in Peru and 1 week in Rio De Janeiro?
I have seen i can get it for £30 but then i read travel insurance should cost 10% of a trip which would probably be £200 as i expect to spend £2000... Just wanted an experienced travel to tell me as I'm inexperienced.
I'm just going to Lima, Cusco and Rio. Up Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountains but no jungle treks.
Also, what should be included in the insurance? Bullet points of what i need would be helpful.…
Just wanted to ask the independent hikers out there if anyone had managed to hire a lightweight tent in Cuzco and if so, where did they find it? and what kind of weight tent can I expect in the "for hire " options?
I'm trying to plan roughly a month in Peru, I'd like to see MP of course and spend the rest of my time in Huaraz as I am an avid hiker. Which of these hikes are your favorite and which do you recommend for me in July? (Cordillera Huayhuash Trek OR Santa Cruz Trek or Salkantay) I think I may do the Salkantay and then one of the ones from Huaraz region. Cost might also factor into my decision making here. Also recommendations for companies or anyone planning to be hiking around the same…
I am planning on going to Peru in late December 2018 to January 2019. I am interested in a 4 day 3 night or 5 day 4 night hike to Machu Picchu while I am there. Does anyone have any tour company recommendations for doing this? I would prefer something under $1000 USD. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
My husband and I will finally be traveling to Peru this summer, to check Machu Picchu off our bucket list. I've been reading posts on this forum, and would love to get your input on my draft itinerary, which has gone through multiple iterations just today. Our time frame is roughly two weeks, but I could possibly stretch that to 18 days. Believe me, if I had more time, I'd spend at least a month in Peru alone!
Places we were interested in besides MP and the Sacred Valley/Cusco were the Nazca…
I will be spending a total of one month in Peru, from April 30th till about June 1. 1 week in Lima where I will tour the city, hike Marcahuasi, and hopefully visit the coast. From there I am thinking of taking the bus from Lima to Cuzco where I will meet my volunteer group for 2 weeks in the Amazon. After the program, I will arrive back in Cuzco and am looking to see Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, Lake Titicaca, and the Colca Canyon. Because of how many climates I will be in, I am…
