Long Distance

Transportes Julio Cesar Has bus services to Lima (S45 to S60, 10 hours, twice daily) and Trujillo (S45 to S55, 5½ hours, once daily).

Móvil Tours Has luxury bus service to Lima (S40 to S70, 10 hours, six daily) via Huaraz. Another bus heads to Trujillo (S50 to S65, nine hours) via Chimbote at 8:20pm

Cooperativa Ancash Has three daily buses to Lima (S45, 9½ hours) via Yungay, Carhuaz and Huaraz, leaving at 11am, 7pm and 8pm.

Expreso Yungay Has a service to Chimbote (S25, six hours, once daily) via the Cañón del Pato and other buses via Casma (S20, four hours, three daily).

Colectivos to Yungay, Carhuaz and Huaraz leave from the bus station on Carretera Central.

Colectivo taxis for Cashapampa (S10, 1½ hours) for the northern end of the Santa Cruz Trek leave when full from the Terminal Santa Cruz, near the market. Colectivos to Pueblo Parón (S10, one hour), which is about 9km from the famous Laguna Parón, leave from the same terminal. It's best to get there early in the morning when departures are more frequent.

Colectivos to Huallanca (S10, one hour), for the Cañón del Pato, leave from the small terminal on Jirón Cordova when full.

Mototaxis (S1.50) trundle around town, but Caraz is easily managed on foot.
