Welcome to Krangket Island
Krangket Island, across Dallman Passage from Madang, is a large island with several villages and a beautiful lagoon ideal for swimming and snorkelling. There’s a popular picnic spot, which was a former rest area for wounded Australian soldiers in the days following the Japanese surrender in WWII. The snorkelling (bring your own snorkelling gear) near Krangket Island Lodge is well worth the K5 locals charge day-trippers.
Boats from Madang (K1, 15 minutes) drop their passengers about 45 minutes’ walk from the Krangket Island Lodge, though you should be able to negotiate passage to the lodge end of the island.
