Kiriwina is imminently walkable and if you have several days at your disposal, the best way to see the island is to walk its roads and footpaths. Observe the women carrying impossible loads on their heads from their gardens and men toting enormous bundles of firewood. Stop in the many villages and chat to locals on the haus win (hangout platforms) where they gather. You get a greater appreciation of the culture if you walk around with a knowledgeable guide who can explain various traditions and introduce you to the Big Chief and the Rainmaker.

A donation of K10–20 is expected if you want to photograph a yam house, or meet an important individual.
