Welcome to Jenin

Jenin struggled to recover from the violence of the Second Intifada and today it still feels like a city down on its luck. The Jenin Cinema reopened in 2010 with German funding but struggled to make ends meet and was recently demolished, bringing an end to a project that had once heralded the city's rebirth.

But whether you are getting lost in the alleys of its packed souq for an hour, checking out the world-famous Freedom Theatre or spending a night or two staying with olive-oil farmers in nearby villages, Jenin feels very much off the traditional tourist trail.
