I don’t realistically expect a reply to this post any time soon. The last one below was eight months ago.
I am returning to Palau to dive (of course) but was wondering if a few days on Yap is worth it. I don’t assume Yap is that much better vs Palau. Or at all. But it does look interesting ethnographically. The people I heard are very kind and inviting whereas Trukk residents are supposed to be sometimes unfriendly (even dangerous) for the casual visitor.
Can anybody out there comment on…

Hi,

I've just spent 7 amazing days exploring the remote, pristine and culturally unique paradise island of Palau.

I've written a comprehensive travel report which includes lots of photos, history, sights, transportation, visa requirements, eating out, accommodation and so much more.

You can view the report here:

If you require any additional information, please contact me.

I am booked to fly into Jakarta 4thMay with my two sons, 12 and 15 who are into birding. I fly into Sorong and then I have a Guide for the birding who will do a 9 day tour with us of Raja Ampet, and Manokawri. From Manokawri I go to Baliem Valley without a guide and then fly back to jakarta 27th May. I have nothing planned for Baliem Valley.
Do you think I can also do the flight bookings once I reach Sorong?

Also I want to travel light and hate carrying too many shoes. Will water/trekking shoes…

Palau is not cheap but it is worthwhile. For accommodation the two best bets are Ms Pinetrees and H K Motel(Japanese minshuku)--for a private room in the latter it was $75. USD in March 2017. For kayaking through the inner islands you can't beat Sam's Tours--super friendly and efficient. You will also get a chance to snorkel on these same trips but the snorkeling around the inner islands is not too impressive. For snorkeling closer to the big outer reef(eg Big Drop Off), Palau 7th…

After finding a good deal ($455 USD return!) from Amsterdam, I decided to book a flight to Palau. I'll be going in early December next year for just one week, plus a night in Taipei. Have booked a bed in the dorm at the hostel in Koror.

Palau (and the Pacific generally) has never really been on my radar; so I don't have any particular expectations. I'm not a diver (though I might take a PADI course before then) but would definitely like to do some snorkelling. I understand that Palau is/was…

Hey all,

This might be a bit of strange question to ask, but I was wondering what if any place kava root drinking might have in Palauan society. I'm headed there in a few weeks, and I figured that if kava is a thing there it might be worth it to experience it. I know the root wasn't huge in Palau like it was in other areas of the South Pacific until recently, and I can't seem to find any information about if there's normal kava bars in Palau like you'd find in Port Vila in Vanuatu or if it's…

Will be in Palau for about a week in 2-3 days. How's the local scene there as in hanging out with locals and practicing Palauan, etc?

I'm thinking catch a cab from the airport to the Pinetree hostel and then try to find some locals to connect with and explore around cheaply before moving on to Yap. Thoughts?

Hey guys!

I just got back from 1 week in Palau and first of all I just want to say it was awesome. I'm a budget traveler and like many people, I had a hard time getting information about traveling cheaply in Palau beforehand. Ultimately, it's not that cheap of a destination to travel but this website had a really great article that helped me travel Palau as cheaply as I could.... I probably would have gone broke if I hadn't seen it. Here's the link: http://outofyourcomfortzone.net/the-ultimate-

Hello Thorn Tree,

Once upon a time I asked many questions from this community, and in return got a beautiful 16 month trip.

Now again I am dreaming of travel.

Do you experience about snorkeling in Palau? I would like to hear from good spots from you. The more detailed your story, the better, but no pressure. Any information is good.

I consider myself an experienced reef dweller, and would use a canoes with my partner to get any spot that is safe for such access. Also can pay for tour trips…
