Getting There & Away
Mwasalat buses (OR3) run from Muscat’s Azaiba Bus Station to Tiwi along the coastal highway at 1.50pm, returning from Tiwi to Muscat at 7.40am (170km, 3½ hours). Passengers for Tiwi alight at the Sur-bound bus stop on the western side of Hwy 17, not in town. Muscat-bound buses from Sur arrive at the bus stop on the eastern side of the highway. Taxis from Muscat via the coastal highway cost OR34.
Tiwi and the two flanking wadis make an easy day trip from Sur; the Muscat–Sur Hwy (Hwy 17) passes the very doorstep of the town, unfortunately marring the entrance to both wadis somewhat because of the giant pylons where the road rests. You might be able to persuade a taxi driver from Sur to take you to Tiwi (OR45, 60km, 40 minutes) and wait for an hour or so while you explore either Wadi Shab or Wadi Tiwi. Alternatively, hotels in Sur can arrange a tour from OR25 per person.
