Muscat in

One Day

Join Muscat's early risers in a dawn stroll along Shatti Al Qurm beach, working up an appetite for breakfast at D'Arcy's Kitchen. Buy some dates in Bateel opposite and hop on the Big Bus Tours for a double-decker ride to Mutrah. Visit Mutrah Souq before it closes for the afternoon and have lunch at one of the cafes at the entrance, or sample Omani cuisine in the atmospheric Bait Al Luban. Walk along the Corniche in the quiet of the afternoon, or board the Big Bus Tour to Old Muscat. Allow an hour to visit the National Museum then wander down to the Sultan's Palace: aglow in the setting sun, it makes the perfect photo opportunity.

Two Days

On the second day, take an early morning boat ride from Marina Bandar Al Rowdha in the hope of spotting dolphins. Either make a day of it, with a snorkel in picturesque Bandar Khayran, or return for lunch at the Blue Marlin Restaurant. In the afternoon, catch the water taxi to Al Mouj, currently Muscat's favourite social hub, and relax in one of the many coffee shops. Return to town on a Mwasalat bus, stopping at the Grand Mosque or Oman Avenues Mall.
