Before You Go

Recommended Vaccinations

No specific vaccinations are required for Oman, other than those recommended for travel to any country (diphtheria, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella, polio and hepatitis B). Yellow fever certificates must be shown on entry if travelling from a country where this is found.

Health Insurance

Having health insurance is highly recommended before entering Oman. Check which hospitals are covered as policies may stipulate which private health-care providers can be used.

In Oman

Availability & Cost of Health Care

Quality care is offered in Muscat and all the main towns of Oman, but is less available in the remote interior. Muscat has the best teaching hospitals, but it's not cheap to access the medical services without insurance. Limited emergency care is available in government clinics, but it shouldn't be assumed that this will be free of charge.

Tap Water

Tap water is safe to drink in main towns throughout Oman. Filling up containers with water from the hotel is an option but don't underestimate the amount of water required for long journeys in summer. Don't drink from mountain irrigation channels as these are often contaminated by grazing animals.
