If you're still searching for that quintessentially Norwegian meal, you won't get much more traditional than this. Originally an 18th-century coaching inn, it's now everyone's favourite homely hang-out in Trondheim. The rambling rooms are crammed with old furniture and decorated with colourful wall-hangings, while the menu is stuffed with comforting classics such as fish soup (unmissable), baked salmon and liver pâté.
There's also a fine herring buffet (198kr to 248kr) and wild-reindeer casserole on the menu, as well as a truly epic list of aquavits.
The food here is more about heartwarming home-cooked meals than presentation, and we like it all the more for that.
