Independent travellers armed with a Russian visa (which you'll need to get in your home country) can hop aboard one of the two daily buses to Murmansk (one way/return 510/780kr, five hours).
Alta's airport is 4km northeast of Sentrum at Elvebakken. SAS has direct flights to/from Oslo, Tromsø, Hammerfest, Lakselv and Vadsø. Norwegian connects Alta with Oslo.
All ferries on the Hurtigruten route will stop here until the opening of the new terminal (at the time of research scheduled for autumn 2018).
Tromsø's airport (Langnes) is about 5km from town, on the western side of Tromsøya and is the main airport for the far north.
