Hey there fellow travelers, I am just back from 16 days in Norway and thought I'd post a review.
Did a clockwise route, not keeping much of an itinerary expect for reservations for rooms in Oslo and Bergen. Budget traveler who likes to meet locals, and maybe go where other backpackers are heading.
When I saw that the southern expressway was untenable for hitching, I took the 135 across through Telamark. Loved this part of Norway. Got rides from many workers who were from other countries, as…
I will be making a solo roadtrip with my car through Norway from 8th of July till about the 20th. Though that end date is flexible. My starting point will be Amsterdam, traveling through Germany and Denmark. Places I will be visiting in Norway will be
Will probably travel back through Sweden. I am hoping to meet a lot of nice people along the way. Not sure how long I will stay in each area yet. I would love to meet fellow travelers, and maybe a…
Hi there. About to get to Bergen and wanted to check prices on the Hartigruten website to go
from Bergen to Alesund. Only getting quotes for 7 to 11 day trips. Anyone know how to get around this?
Does anyone know if they give discounts for booking a day in advance? Seems like everything here is geared up for that. Anyone know about what they will charge for an overnight to ALESUND? Thanks for any help. JB
I'm planning to head to Norway this August for around 16 days.
I'd appreciate any feedback on this draft itinerary. I absolutely hate tourist traps, but would not want to miss the unmissable, if you get me. Am I missing anything obvious? Should I cut some stuff that I'll have already seen plenty of?
One thing I'm concerned about is visiting some of these places without a car. I'm also keen to have a variety of experiences - I don't want it to just be two weeks in the fjords…
Are camping butane canisters readily available in Tromso? Might fly there before trekking in Finland and Sweden.
It's for a stove from the USA so threaded fitting.
I'm going to be in Bergen in mid-June and am interested in a port to port ferry from Bergen to Geiranger. The only thing I can find online is the Hartigruten* voyages that typically last 11 days and are fairly expensive. I'm interested in the ferry for the scenery as well as its direct nature to my destination. Would I maybe be better served taking a bus to Geiranger and then taking some kind of boat ride in Geirangerfjord? Does anyone know of a direct ferry and where to book it? Thanks (also a…
I'm going to be in Bergen in June for a long weekend. I'm looking to take a ferry trip somewhere, figuring the ferry ride would be scenic. I want to avoid the Flam/Gudvangen area, I feel like it might be too touristy. I want to go somewhere more off the beaten path, perhaps further North? Does anyone have suggestions on where to go for a day trip (or possibly one night stay) from Bergen?
We are traveling June 18-26, 2018 and need advice with our final decisions for driving vs public transportation on a few days of our trip. We are a family of two parents and 4 adult children age 19-24. Hotels are already booked so it is not an option to change the route at this time. Following is our itinerary with the two transportation decisions included. Price is not a concern, we just want to maximize what we experience. We are aware of drop-off fee for rental car.
Fly into Oslo arriving…
I’m traveling with my 60 year old mother to Norway in June. We will spend three days in Oslo to meet some friends and then we have an open itinerary that I’d love some ideas for.
First option: Norway in a Nutshell
June 9-12 Oslo, train from Oslo to Flåm
June 13 Flåm to Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord by boat, overnight [question 1: are either of these fjords good for kayaking?]
June 14 public transport to Geiranger fjord [question 2: is this even possible? How long would it take? If it is…
Hi all, trying to determine best way to cover these 3 popular places in the South (will visit other places in South and Lofoten/North).
Hope you can advise on land/water public transport in June/July.
Time is flexible. Sleeping is flexible as will have tent. Hope to minimize backtracking.
Questions / considerations:
1. Direction of approach (South to North OR N->S). When (approx date, wknds) do crowds appear at these hikes in South?
When does Lofoten (North) start to get more tourists…
