Local crafts still exist in some of the country's čaršijas (old Ottoman bazaars). Silver filigree jewellery, for example, is a prized local art and comparably cheap in North Macedonia; Skopje's Čaršija is the best place to pick up a piece.

Locally grown produce and booze make great souvenirs: look for wine and fruit rakija (local firewater), ajvar (pepper sauce), porcini mushrooms, packets of paprika, mountain honey and herbs in markets, wineries and villages.
