Living and running a business (<snip>) in Granada, Nicaragua. We have received a lot of questions from guests and friends asking about current situation in the country, we've also seen a lot of fake & alarming news spreading on social medias so here is a quick update.

As some of you may know, contestations started last week when Nicaragua's president reformed social security. Last Friday and Saturday there was a social uproar leading to protests during the days, and movements…

Hello everyone,

My partner and I have our first international backpacking trip planned (from Canada) planned for Nicaragua in 1 week. We are set to be in the country from April 29th-May 11th. I have just heard of the protests happening now, I am VERY scared and worried to travel now? Should I be? What would you all recommend? I feel very unsettled.....

Nicaragua is now several days into major protests over government cutbacks in the national pension program. The largest protests are in Managua and in some other large cities, including Esteli and Leon. There have been ten fatalities so far. There has been little foreign coverage in the press but this is recently from BBC http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-43846643 Nicaragua competes as one of the safest countries in Central America for locals and tourists, so this unrest…

I am considering buying a ticket for a trip to Nicaragua, leaving in two or three days. Flight prices are not that bad for last second. Looking to stay 6-8 days.

Would not have much time to plan, but I am a spur of the moment type of person. I did something in Guatemala many years ago. Did not even have a hotel booked when I arrived. Hi!

I am spending 1.5 weeks Nicaragua (flying into Managua)so any advice about the best way to spend this time in Nicaragua would be great (into the nature and experiences - not the 'party' ;)
BUT as well, I will be travelling onwards to Utila, Honduras and am wondering what is the best way to get there (and from which city in Nicaragua would be best to depart?)

Thanks!!

I have about a week once my internship in Sarapiqui finishes to travel a bit and may go to Nicaragua cos its cheaper than Costa Rica

Couple Qs
- What are the Solentiname Islands like? Are they worth a visit if I only have a week, do they compare to Ometepe?

Am thinking of bussing from San Carlos to Managua, then up to Leon for a couple days and then a bus Managua to San Jose and poss stop Granada and San Juan del Sur. But is this too much for 1 week?

Hello all!
Can you recommend the best beaches around San Juan del Sur? Are the ones around Leon nicer? We want to spend a couple of days at either location but not sure which is nicer. We're not huge party animals! :)

Thanks in advance!

Have just searched on the Rome 2 Rio site and found its technically possible to get from San Carlos to Leon in a day by bus

Is this actually the case??? Thought that given east coast Lake Nicaragua is quite remote etc. this may be a tad optimistic?
