International in Matagalpa

This fantastic arrival on Matagalpa's dining scene will be a godsend to travelers bored with typical nica cuisine, with curry and teriyaki-based dishes, bruschetta, bagels and artisanal beer topping the list of things you won't find elsewhere in the northern highlands. The whole place is gorgeous, with tables scattered under a fairy light-strewn tree on a breezy terrace.

Best of all, the restaurant, founded by a couple of US charity workers, serves as a training program for local young people, who are eventually set to take shared control of the business when the owners leave Nicaragua.
