During this family-friendly sightseeing experience, which is a combination of walking and riding in a comfortable minivan, learn about the culture and history of Nicaragua and its capital city from a local guide.

After pickup from your Managua hotel, your city sightseeing tour heads first to the ruins of the Old Cathedral of Managua. From the street, view the hollow cathedral, which was designed by a Belgian architect and shipped to Managua in the 1920s. The cathedral was severely damaged during the 1972 earthquake, but the hollow shell of the cathedral still stands, creating a beautiful and serene sight. Continue your tour to the National Palace of Culture, where the National Archive, National Library and the National Museum are located. Take a guided tour through the National Museum, which houses exhibits ranging from prehistoric bones to pre-Colombian ceramics to modern paintings and sculptures. As you walk through the museum with your guide, see various types of art, including Latin American paintings, metates (indigenous stone instruments used to process corn) and paintings by Rodrigo Penalba. Then venture to Rubén Darío National Theatre, a well-known Central American theater named for Rubén Darío, a key figure in the Spanish-American literary movement of the late 19th century. A beloved writer, Dario had a lasting influence on 20th-century Spanish literature and journalism. The theater is one of the few buildings that survived the devastating earthquake of 1972, and is home to many shows, concerts and other cultural performances. Next, stop for lunch at a local restaurant (own expense) before making your way to Tiscapa Historical National Park, where you'll find the statue of the silhouette of Augusto Sandino, Nicaragua’s famous revolutionary leader of the early 1900s. As you walk around the park with your guide, admire impressive panoramic views of Tiscapa Lagoon and the city. You tour ends with drop-off back at your hotel.
