Has anyone travelled on the panga between San Juan del Norte and Bluefields after 2016? We are planning this trip next February and read somewhere that the service was discontinued. Thanks so much! // Alicia

It has been about a month and a half since my prior posts on the first days of the political crisis in Nicaragua. Then, it was hard to say whether the protests were just about the pension issues or something bigger, other than it was apparent that the university student population of Nicaragua were demonstrating their historic shift from Sandinista supporters to being largely anti-Ortega . Now, one has to say that the political crisis in Nicaragua is a very big deal (though sparsely reported…

So was planning to head to Granada/Leon this August, with the protests escalating that may look unlikely

Am still pretty determined to visit Nicaragua, provided that areas near the Costa Rican border stay safe at least

Am wondering about travel in the Rio San Juan region. Is it possible to go from San Carlos to Greytown and then down to Tortuguero? How does the ecotourism in the region compare to in Costa Rica price/quality wise? I heard there were massive forest fires there recently so things…

My daughter and I will be flying into Liberia mid-June and taking a Sansa flight to Emerald Coast International. We are staying in a resort south of San Juan Del Sur. I have been monitoring the news, but I can't seem to find anything specific to this area related to the unrest in the country. Can anyone give me an update on travel conditions?

Was planning on going to Nicaragua late next week for three weeks. Canceled the trip a couple of days ago due to the political unrest. It sounds like travel within the country was going to be next to impossible with all of the road blocks set up. I was mostly going to Granada, Las Penitas and Esteli. If it was just me going, I probably would have given it a shot since I have experienced travel in countries that have civil unrest before, but this was to be the first big out-of-country trip…

I live in Jiquilillo, Nicaragua located in the North Western corner of Chinandega. I have watching things develop over the past couple weeks and things are not getting better. The dialogues are getting no where and sadly there are a lot of clashes between the peaceful protesters and the supporters of the government. Road blocks are plaguing the country and sadly there are opportunists who are taking advantage of the situation and charging vehicles to pass. Traveling by bus, taxi, and…
