This vast coffee finca set among tracts of cloud forest has wonderful views and plenty of activities for guests run by the warm and welcoming staff. Accommodations are in wood-crafted, fan-cooled rooms that come with mosquito nets, hot water and solar-generated electricity. Best of all, there are three pools fed by cold mountain water, perfect for cooling down post-hike.
In addition to tours of the coffee plantations, there is excellent birdwatching, scenic nature trails, waterfalls, a fine mariposario (butterfly enclosure), a zipline and a ranario (frog enclosure). It's possible to visit just for the day (US$15 including lunch and activities) – a great deal if the rooms are out of your budget. Advance reservations are recommended.
