This professionally run research station in the Río Papaturro community is primarily geared to scientists and students. However, tourists are welcome to bunk down in the basic but comfortable wooden cabañas. Typical Nica meals (US$5) are available at local homes.
The center offers several tours, including a two-hour guided hike (US$10 per person) with visits to an alligator hatchery and a short detour through the jungle canopy on a hanging bridge, and a moonlight alligator tour (US$45 for one to three visitors). Kayaks are also available to rent.
