A recent agreement between a historic preservation society and a Wyoming air force base has paved the way for a Cold War-era missile silo to become a tourist destination.

Restoration is underway at the Quebec-01 Missile Alert Facility near Cheyenne, Wyoming, to reinstall vintage computer systems and equipment to the underground nuclear launch site.

After becoming active in 1962, the facility ran 24-hour shifts in a control room 110ft underground that were prepared to launch 10 missiles installed at various locations across the Wyoming prairie. Each missile contained 10 nuclear warheads. The facility was shuttered in 2006. Read more: billingsgazette.com
