A woman from Lower Saxony, Germany, was stopped by police near Hanover on Tuesday, when they discovered she was trying to leave the country with a Shetland pony in the back of her Fiat Panda.

The woman was 100km into her journey to the Czech Republic when she was apprehended by the authorities, who freed the animal from the boot of her car. Police have yet to confirm whether the woman from Bad Bentheim will be charged for violating the country's Animal Protection Act. Read more: thelocal.de
