A wildfire that has consumed up to 1000 acres in Glacier National Park in Montana has forced the park service to close Going-to-the-Sun Road, one of the park’s most popular roadways.

About 95 percent of visitors to the park travel at least a portion of Going-to-the-Sun Road, a 50-mile stretch of roadway that bisects the park and crosses the Continental Divide at an elevation of 6647ft. A mixture of drought conditions and lightning have fed the fire, prompting the evacuation of nearby homes and campgrounds. Read more: nytimes.com
