After almost four decades of keeping Orlando visitors cool with water slides and a lazy river, water park Wet ‘n Wild Orlando will close in 2016. Universal Orlando, which owns the water park, announced the closure in order to make room for Universal’s new Volcano Bay water park, set to open in 2017. Wet ‘n Wild was opened in 1977 by SeaWorld founder George Millay, and it remained the US’s most popular water park until Walt Disney World Resorts opened Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach in the ‘90s.
