A lump of whale vomit found by a dog walker has sold for £11,000.

The ‘rugby ball-shaped’ 1.1kg chunk of ambergris, a wax-like substance found in the intestines of sperm whales, is a rare ingredient used by the perfume industry. It was found by a dog walker on the island of Anglesey and has been sold at auction to a bidder in France. ‘We've had lots of unusual items pass through the doors over the years,’ said auctioneer Adam Partridge, ‘but this is by far the weirdest.’ bbc.co.uk
