A volcano in Ecuador has been showing signs of activity in recent months, spewing ash and gas into the air.
The Cotopaxi volcano has not had a large eruption since 1877, and volcanologists say it is increasingly active, reports the New York Times.
The volcano is about 50-kilometres from the capital city of Quinto. It is considered one of the most dangerous volcanos in the world due to its vulnerable snow cap in the event of an eruption, and its nearness to highly population areas, according to News24. About 325,000 people could be impacted if there was an eruption, which could trigger mudslides or avalanches.
