Ancient beer recipe found in Virginia.

A brewery in Richmond, Virginia, is looking to the past to find its next hit craft brew. The Ardent Craft Ales brewery has recently cooked up a ‘Jane’s Percimon Beer’ using a recipe discovered in a 300-year-old cookbook. The cookbook was owned by Virginia’s Reynolds family and is under the charge of the Virginia Historical Society, an organisation which collects and preserves the state’s historical artifacts. The Colonial-era recipe included brief instructions to combine water, American persimmons and hops and ferment it with yeast. The result is low-alcohol ‘table beer’ with hints of tangerine and spice.
