Boat captain Andrew Harpster was on a sightseeing tour near Juneau in Southeast Alaska when he spotted a pod of killer whales surrounding a Steller sea lion.

While observing the animals, he noticed that the killer whales were playing with the sea lion before eating it. A video captured from the deck of Harpster’s boat depicts the pod encircling and prodding the struggling animal. The killer whales can be seen tossing the sea lion into the air. Male Steller sea lions can exceed 1000lbs in weight.
In comments related to the video, Harpster says the pod was using the sea lion as a learning opportunity for two young calves in the group. Read more: adn.com
