Ziwa, Uganda’s only rhino sanctuary, recorded the arrival of a baby rhino over the weekend. The healthy-looking male calf was born to Nandi, one of the first females brought to the sanctuary when it was established.
This takes the number of rhinos at Ziwa Sanctuary back to 15 – an adult male died earlier this year after sustaining injuries during a fight with another rhino. It’s hoped the breeding programme at Ziwa will provide enough rhinos to allow the Uganda Wildlife Authority to reintroduce the species into national parks like Murchisons Falls and Kidepo Valley.
