Ride-sharing app company Uber launched its first services in Macau on Friday after more than a year of planning.
The soft launch saw some 127,000 people try the app on the first day, including locals and international visitors. Macau has been battling taxi troubles for several years, with local police reporting 1,333 cases of ‘misconduct’ by taxi drivers in two months earlier this year. Initially, only Uber’s luxury service, Uber BLACK, will be available in Macau, and the company has stated that car availability may be limited during the first few weeks of service.
