The Tuscan island of Giglio is seeking €190 million in damages from Costa Cruises, after the Costa Concordia cruise ship was wrecked off the coast of the island in 2012. Lawyers for the island claim that the disaster and its aftermath, which left the ship stranded on rocks not far from Giglio's harbour for more than 900 days, have tarnished the island’s reputation and had a negative impact on local businesses. The wider Tuscany region is similarly suing for €30 million in damages to its reputation, but Costa Cruises lawyers say the claim is wildly exaggerated and without justification. Read more:
