Travelling with cash can be a double-edged sword. While local currencies may be needed to buy items in a far-flung market, too much cash-on hand can bring its own risks. The rise of credit and debit cards have made keeping paper money to a minimum easier, but , have your card eaten by a foreign ATM and cash once again becomes king.

Now, a travel blogger and YouTuber Steve Booker will attempt a trip around the world, but he’s going to try and do it without using any cash. He will go to eight countries and three continents in two weeks, all without any coins or paper money.

The challenge is sponsored by PayPal, called “PayPal Pole2Pole,” and will require him to pay for his travel and accommodation using PayPal services.
On Booker’s itinerary is: dog-sledding through the Northern Lights on Norwegian islands; seeing Moscow’s underground tunnels and the “Seven Sisters” (a group of Stalin-era skyscrapers); checking out street art in Berlin; seeing an anniversary screening of Back to the Future at the famous Le Grand Rex cinema in Paris; a mountain biking tour of Barcelona; microlight flight along the coast of South Africa; and helicopter flight over the islands off Ushuaia, on the coast of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.
