Kazakhstan has placed new regulations requiring foreign tourists to obtain permits for several tourist areas that fall within the country’s border zones.

These include popular sites like Charyn Canyon, Shymbulak ski resort, Medeu ice rink, Big Almaty Lake and Lake Alakol. This comes just as the country extended its list of passport-holders eligible to visit visa-free.
