The bombing on Saturday of a famous Hindu temple in the town of Dinajpur marks a new front in the growing political violence in Bangladesh.

A bomb planted near a dance podium at the ancient Kantaji Mandir exploded during the temple’s annual mela (festival) celebrations, wounding six devotees. The government has been reluctant to link the bombing to other recent attacks, but suspicion must inevitably fall on the Islamist groups who have murdered foreigners, Shia Muslims and secular bloggers in a string of deadly attacks in recent months.
