Almost 700 koalas have been killed by wildlife officials in a secret operation in Australia. The government euthanised the wildlife in response to overpopulation in manna gum woodlands in the Cape Otway region, 230kms southwest of Melbourne. The koalas were said to be starving, due to the unsustainably high population densities, and thus captured in trees and killed by lethal injection.
