The Special Olympics, the biggest international sporting event for people with intellectual disabilities, begins this Saturday in Los Angeles, but for many competitors their first day in the city definitely didn’t win any medals.
Travel problems meant 1500 people had to sleep on a gym floor when they couldn’t reach their host cities, and local authorities had to call the Red Cross in the middle of the night to ask for food and blankets.
