As part of the revamp of Macedonia’s capital over the past few years, a huge London-style Ferris wheel will be constructed in central Skopje.
The wheel will stand on top of a pedestrian bridge on the Vardar River, and the construction will take five years. The government-funded makeover of the capital, known as ‘Skopje 2014’, has been a controversial project and according to media reports it has already cost over 500 million euros. It has also completely changed the image of this old city with the construction of new buildings in neoclassical style, as well as bridges and a huge number of statues.
