Researchers have identified a new carnivorous plant species after a botanical enthusiast in Brazil posted a photo of it on Facebook.
Amateur researcher Reginaldo Vasoncelos photographed the plant on a mountain top in the jungle of Minas Gerais in 2013 before scientists from the Botanical State Collection in Munich, Germany discovered it on the social media network. With a long tangle of sticky, carnivorous leaves that can ensnare insects as large as a dragonfly, the plant can only be found on a single mountain peak and is already considered endangered. It has been named drosera magnifica, or magnificent sundew, as it is the largest sundew in the Americas. Read more: telegraph.co.uk
