Prince Fahad bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the governor of Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk province, has arrived in Pakistan for a private hunting trip to hunt the endangered houbara bustard. Although officially protected by Pakistan law, the bird is a favourite hunting quarry for Gulf Arabs, who believe that the flesh of the houbara bustard has aphrodisiac properties. Pakistan has strong political and religious ties to the Gulf states, and conservation rules are routinely flouted to allow wealthy dignitaries and royalty to hunt the endangered animals.
