The office of Santa Claus Village near Rovaniemi, Finland, has filed for bankruptcy after failing to pay a €200,000 tax bill.
The attraction in Finnish Lapland, which claims to be the official home of Father Christmas, typically welcomes around 300,000 visitors each year, but recently it has seen a decline in tourist numbers, especially from recession-hit Russia. But Jarmo Kariniemis, Managing Director of Santa Claus Village owner Dianordia, remains optimistic, saying, "We will take care of it. We have already collected half of the sum."
