
The 2014 World Monuments Fund/Knoll Modernism Prize has been awarded to the restoration of Viipuri Library in the Russian town of Vyborg, northwest of St Petersburg. The library is the work of architect Alvar Aalto and is considered an iconic example of 20th-century architecture. It was built between 1927 and 1935 when Vyborg was part of Finland and known as Viipuri. The biennial Modernism Prize was established in 2008 and is granted to innovative architectural or design solutions that preserve or enhance modern landmarks. Read more: dezeen.com
