Earlier this week in the Costa Rican town of Uruca, located in the San Jose province north of the capital, a parrot named Betty saved her owner Gretel Pereira and her family from a fire that started in the house next door.

Upon sensing the presence of the neighboring fire, Betty yelled “Fuego, fuego, fuego [fire, fire, fire]” to notify the family of the danger. Pereira and her family escaped unharmed, but three homes were destroyed in the blaze. Causes for the incident are currently under investigation.
